Dr. David. “They typically consist of composed of finely granulated ingredients which mechanically eliminates dead cells to help rejuvenate and moisturize the lips. This allows for more effective absorption of balms that hydrate and a smoother applying of the lipstick.”
Lip scrubs are a type that provides physical exfoliation (or mechanical exfoliation like David Dr. David referred to it). They are made up of visible granules of sugar that remove dead skin cells when you apply the formula to your lips. Exfoliating products designed for the face usually contain chemical exfoliants as well. Chemical exfoliants are acids, like beta-hydroxy acid or alpha-hydroxy acid, that dissolve dead skin cells instead of scratching them off. Chemical and physical exfoliants create a smoother, more polished surface on the skin.
